the children's home of lubbock

individual & family services

The Children's Home is a community of volunteers, workers and supporters, pouring their efforts together to make life better for children who need to see that caring and love do exist in a world that has often been unfair and unjust. Since the Home opened its doors in 1954, over 6,000 children have been helped through the Home's services. Praised by licensure reviews as one of the best programs in the State of Texas, The Children's Home places a strong emphasis on family rehabilitation, with programs of care designed for children and their families. On any given day an average of 145 boys and girls are in care in the various programs of The Children's Home of Lubbock. The Children's Home is licensed and reimbursed for services rendered by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services and meets or exceeds all standards established for out-of-home care of children. Children are served without regard to their race, religion, or national origin. The Children's Home has a debt-free modern group care campus, designed to serve 90 children on any given day. Forty-five to sixty more children are served in other programs at the Home. All child care staff receive more than 50 hours of training each year. Spiritual training is a vital part of each child's life at the Home. Each cottage worships at a different congregation in the Lubbock community. Staff and children become active participants in the congregation where they worship. Spiritual training policies are set by the Board of Directors and implemented by our staff without regulation by the State. Last year the Home served 244 public sector boys and girls who would not otherwise receive the blessing of knowing about the God who loves them.

the children's home of reading (chor)

hospital & health care

For 130 years, The Childrens Home of Reading has responded to the needs of children and families in crisis in Berks County and the surrounding communities. While the needs and programs have changed, one thing remains the same, The Childrens Home of Reading prepares children for success in life. Today, the services provided are treatment oriented because the children who pass through our doors face serious barriers to success. They come to us with serious mental health and behavioral challenges. They come to us abused, neglected and afraid. They come to us without hope. While some have loving families that just dont know how to help their children get through these difficult days, many of them have not experienced childhood in the way that most of us do.

The Children's Museum of the East End

The Children’s Museum of the East End started with a conversation around a kitchen table in Amagansett. In 1997, seven mothers gathered weekly because they were disappointed with the few educational opportunities for children on the East End of Long Island. Inspired by the excitement they and their children experienced at the new children’s museums that were opening and helping to define communities around the country, they began meeting regularly at each other’s homes. They hit on the idea of launching a new organization that would teach children about the East End and world around them by promoting learning through play. Calling their idea the “Children’s Museum of the East End” or CMEE, the mothers launched a pilot project exhibit to gauge community interest in a local children’s museum. In just fourteen weeks at Guild Hall in East Hampton, five thousand people visited the exhibit, confirming the belief that the East End needed a children’s museum. In October 1998, the original founders had added to their numbers and organized a Board of Trustees. After sponsoring a feasibility study to determine the level of interest and support for CMEE in the community, they discovered there was overwhelming interest in the concept. To make their dream a reality, the Board embarked on a capital campaign. With the support of hundreds of stakeholders in the community, CMEE opened its current home in Bridgehampton in October 2005. With over 7,000 square feet of exhibition and program space, CMEE soon became one of the most visited museums in Eastern Long Island. CMEE upholds its mission “to spark imagination and foster learning for children of all backgrounds and abilities and to build strong connections within the East End community by providing playful experiences.” by presenting educational exhibits and programs and by partnering with other arts and social service organizations to address issues that concern families in the community.
