A história da UniAteneu está alicerçada na experiência acumulada de um grupo de educadores de tradicional família cearense, que a partir de 1973, iniciou a construção de uma sólida organização educacional, fundando e administrando diversas instituições de ensino fundamental e médio nos estados do Ceará, Rio de Janeiro e Espírito Santo. Em 2002, visando por em prática a também larga experiência com o ensino superior, o grupo de educadores iniciou a elaboração do projeto de credenciamento da Faculdade Ateneu – FATE, conseguindo a autorização de todos os cursos pelo Ministério da Educação – MEC com conceito máximo. Hoje o grupo mantém suas atividades de ensino fundamental e médio nos três Estados, mas concentra suas atividades de nível superior no Estado do Ceará com unidades em Fortaleza e em São Gonçalo do Amarante.
