The University of Stavanger, on the South West Coast of Norway, has 12,000 students and 1,600 faculty, administration and service staff. The University of Stavanger (UiS) is situated in the most attractive region in the country, with some 300 000 inhabitants. In constant collaboration and dialogue with our surroundings, regionally, nationally and internationally, we enjoy an open and creative climate for education, research, innovation, dissemination and museum activities. Academic life at the University of Stavanger is organised into six faculties, comprising a total of 13 departments/schools and two National Research Centres, as well as the Museum of Archaeology. The university also has a unit for lifelong learning called UiS Pluss. Many of the externally financed research activities are performed in cooperation with our research institute - NORCE Norwegian Research Centre AS. Several other research centres are organised as consortiums of The University of Stavanger, NORCE and other actors. Validé is our tool for commercialisation of research ideas. The Stavanger Innovation Park (Ipark) is also located on campus, running incubator activities and helping new enterprises start up. UiS is a proud member of The European Consortium of Innovative Universities (ECIU). A network of innovative universities in Europe. Two organisations, SiS and StOr (the student union), take care of the students’ welfare and rights.
