VASC opened in April 1992, after a seven-year development process that involved interested citizens, City of Hampton officials, NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC), Langley Air Force Base, and the Smithsonian Institution. The result was the development of a unique and architecturally impressive, award winning, wing-shaped, 110,000 square-foot museum which provides a focal point for informal science education activities and serves as the official visitor centers for NASA Langley Research Center and Langley Air Force Base. The Center strives to offer the best possible visitor experience by providing a fresh and engaging museum environment. Exhibits and education programs focus on science experiences and applications. These include wide-ranging experiments conducted in space and on Earth, the “why and how” of these applications, and technology’s effect on our lives.

Virginia Amateur Sports Inc. (VAS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Roanoke. VAS is governed by a board of directors made up of twenty two members from localities across the state. Mission statement is: To promote awareness and benefits of physical fitness and healthy lifestyles through sports education, training & competition. VAS directs more than 10 events throughout the year, including the Virginia Commonwealth Games at Liberty University, the largest multi-sport festival held in Virginia each year. Virginia Commonwealth Games at Liberty University Going into its 27th year, this annual event is held in July (for most sports.) This multi-sport festival is supported by a grassroots volunteer network, businesses and governments of the Lynchburg Area. The Games have an estimated $4 million economic impact on the area. Attracting more than 225,000 athletes, their families plus spectators during the past 26 years, this competition features nearly 60 individual & team sports including basketball, softball, karate, swimming, autocross and more. The Games are open to all ages and skill levels for any resident in Virginia. Credentials VAS is a member of the National Congress of State Games (NCSG) and is sanctioned and recognized by the NCSG, the Virginia High School League (VHSL), the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and by the United States Olympic Committee as a Games participant.
