The Westgate Community School is founded upon a set of guiding principles that help define our vision, goals, and daily practices. Our vision is a school that welcomes and provides opportunities for all gifted learners, including highly and profoundly-gifted, twice-exceptional, divergent and creative gifted students to pursue their intellectual growth through cooperative relationships between educators, parents, students, and the community. At our school, gifted learners will explore their passions in ways that encourage academic excellence and individualized learning in an environment focused on imparting critical social, personal, and technological skills.

The Westgate Community Trust is a charity that was created by local people to save the Westgate Hall, an old Drill Hall in the centre of Canterbury that, in 2010, was threatened with demolition. The Trust will now run it as a community centre to serve the needs and interests of the present and future residents of our city, and in the process, strengthen community spirit. In July 2011 Canterbury City Council accepted the proposal of the Trust to run the Westgate Hall as a community centre, sub-leasing part of the building to Corinthian Curzon for a 3-screen digital cinema. In February 2013 the Trust has taken over the building from the council. The refurbishment will start shortly.
