Der Zürcher Turnverband ist am 9. November 2002 in Stäfa gegründet worden. Mit seinen Vorgängerverbänden * dem Kantonalen Frauenturnverband Zürich KFZ (Gründungsjahr 1927) * dem Kantonalturnverband Zürich KTVZ (Gründungsjahr 1860) * dem Turnverband Zürichsee-Oberland (Gründungsjahr 1879) * dem Kreisturnverband Winterthur (Gründungsjahr 1881) * dem Turnverband am Albis (Gründungsjahr 1882) * dem Turnverband Glatt- Limmattal- und Stadt Zürich (Gründungsjahr 1894, mit Stadt Zürich 1997) * der Kunstturner-Vereinigung des Kanton Zürich (Gründungsjahr 1913) blickt er auf eine lange, im Kanton Zürich stark verwurzelte Tradition in der Turnbewegung zurück. Aktuell zählt der Zürcher Turnvernad (ZTV) rund 60'088 Mitglieder, aufgeteilt in rund 400 Vereinen im Kanton Zürich. Der ZTV fördert als polysportiver Verband zusammen mit seinen Vereinen sowohl den Breiten- als auch den Leistungs- und Spitzensport. Er schafft die Voraussetzungen für eine sportliche Betätigung aller Bevölkerungsschichten und Altersgruppen und ist politisch und konfessionell neutral. So polysportiv wie Turnen ist keine andere Sportart: Unsere Turnvereine haben folgende Turnsportarten im Angebot: Aerobic, Fachtest, Faustball, Geräteturnen, Gymnastik, Korbball, Kunstturnen Männer, Kunstturnen Frauen, Leichtathletik, Nationalturnen, Rhönrad, Rhythmische Gymnastik, Trampolin, Volleyball und das in allen Altersklassen und Niveaustufen.
