Centro Científico Tecnológico de Rosario se crea en mayo de 2007 a partir de la descentralización de la estructura de CONICET, oportunidad en la que se incorporan las dependencias y personal de lo que se conocía como Centro Regional de Investigación y Desarrollo Rosario (CERIDER) fundado en 1979 por CONICET. Como parte descentralizada del Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas, al igual que éste, revista bajo la órbita del Ministerio de Educación, Cultura, Ciencia y Tecnología de la Nación. Promueve ámbitos apropiados para el avance de investigaciones científicas, tecnológicas y de desarrollo de Rosario y la región. Su Unidad de Administración Territorial -UAT- tiene como propósito administrar proyectos y recursos científicos así como también dar a conocer las investigaciones alcanzadas, al tiempo que aporta a la gestión de equipamiento y funcionamiento del Centro. Sus equipos científicos profundizan estudios que abarcan las más variadas ramas del saber generando aportes en los campos en los que se inscriben y sus resultados son publicados en revistas de prestigio internacional. Está ubicado sobre las barrancas del río Paraná, próximo al Campus de la Universidad Nacional de Rosario (UNR). El CCT conforma un verdadero Centro Científico Tecnológico pues en este predio funcionan sus Unidades Ejecutoras: IRICE, IFISE, IBR, ISHIR, IFIR, CIFASIS, IQUIR, CEFOBI y la UAT. Asimismo, se encuentran: la sede regional del Instituto Nacional de Tecnología Industrial (INTI), el Instituto de Agrobiotecnología Rosario (INDEAR), la Aceleradora de Proyectos Biotecnológicos (Bio.r) -experiencia única a nivel nacional para impulsar proyectos que generen productos y/o servicios innovadores en el área de Biotecnología a partir de ideas nacidas en el ámbito académico- y, más recientemente, se sumó en colaboración con la UNR, la incubadora de proyectos INNOVA.
