The Energy Academy is a project that will explore the use of immersive experiences for users to learn the most fundamental concepts and connections in safeguarding planet Earth. The sun-to-planet energy flow, a human changed climate, photosynthesis, carbon sequestration and renewables are part of its core curricula. We believe achieving sustainability requires a collective planetary consciousness. Our climate and energy challenge requires a population that understands the close and delicate connections between the macro and micro levels, from the solar system down to cellular and molecular structures. The Academy is the first software prototype of a newborn social innovation lab. Open will initiate projects that harness collective networks for exponential social and environmental impact. By partnering with leading universities, institutes and NGOs, we want to build knowledge networks to bring cutting-edge science and innovation to broad audiences in accesible formats. In 2017 we will be working on our first proof-of-concept prototype. We are building our team and establishing partnerships for our first big step. The Energy Accountants Society of Canada (Formerly Petroleum Accountants of Canada) is a volunteer-driven, member-based association for Canada's top-performing energy accountants. On behalf of our more than 260 members, who are drawn from more than 160 energy companies, we develop and disseminate accounting guidelines and best practices, offer customized continuing education courses and organize regular professional development and networking events. Energy Action is holding the 8th annual Fuel Poverty Conference 2019 on the 21st of October 2019, at Croke Park in Dublin, Ireland. The theme of this year’s conference is “ Together We Thrive” and looks at how collaboration can bring positive change for the fuel poor. The problem of fuel poverty can be solved only through the joint efforts of community organisations, Government Departments, Local Authorities, energy companies and other groups working together as an expanded community. This year’s Conference is set against the background of the Government’s recently published Climate Action Plan. In this Plan, the Government acknowledges the key role that communities will play in delivering the ambitious targets set out in the Plan. Citizen engagement at local level is recognised as an integral part of the process. Energy Action is currently developing the conference programme and we will have a line-up of expert speakers from Ireland and abroad including Sorcha Edwards, Secretary General, Housing Europe; Josephine Maguire, SEAI; Brendan Tuohy, Dingle Hub, Kerry; Eugene Conlon, Dunleer Sustainable Energy Community, Louth; and Brian Whitington from the Scottish Isles community energy group Tighean Innse Gall. The Conference will include a number of interactive Workshops to facilitate dialogue among community groups, social enterprises, policy makers, health experts, regulators, local authorities, energy companies and of course the various agencies supporting vulnerable people throughout Ireland. Energy Action has advocated for many years on behalf of people living in fuel poverty. Fuel poverty is an enduring problem with widespread and severe impact, particularly on peoples’ health and wellbeing. It is estimated that 380,000 households are in fuel poverty in Ireland and over 50 million people in Europe cannot keep their home adequately warm.
