sports
Foundation for Interscholastic Youth Athletics or FIYA was formed in August 2011 as a 501c3 nonprofit corporation. It serves as a governing body to provide interscholastic sports competitions amongst elementary and middle schools in the Los Angeles area. FIYA’s mission is: Strengthening Schools through Sports. FIYA BELIEVES youth sports + education are strongly intertwined and when structured correctly, youth sports offer life-long memories and invaluable lessons concerning values and virtues. We see the athletic field as an extension of the classroom, and our philosophy is that coaches have the opportunity to teach young athletes responsibility, independence and leadership so that they are better prepared for everyday life and their brighter futures. FIYA FULFILLS ITS VISION by working directly with elementary and middle schools all throughout Los Angeles County offering athletic opportunities to its student athletes and we assist schools by helping develop their athletic programs. We provide anywhere from school sports leagues, competitions, tournaments and other programs to our community and we're open arms to all LA schools. FIYA HAS WITNESSED the benefits of elementary / middle school athletic programs for the school, its student body and its community. A good school athletic program can become a marketing tool to maintain or increase its enrollment, and school administrators can use sports as an incentive for its students to behave well and maintain steady progress in the classroom. Most importantly, an active student body results in a healthier and happier student population, creating an overall better learning environment!
