Rhode Island Council 94 is one of the oldest and largest public employee unions in Rhode Island. We are made up of approximately 65 Local Unions in most state agencies and Cities and Towns in Rhode Island. We also represent Private Sector workers and workers in quasi-public agencies including the Narragansett Bay Commission and the Rhode Island Airport Corporation. Our Locals range in size from 8 members to more than 500 members. We have several contracts with the State of Rhode Island including a Master Contract covering more than 3,700 State employees and dozens of contracts in Cities, Towns and School Districts. Rhode Island Council 94 has a full time staff of 12 employees which includes field staff, attorneys, office workers and a political lobbyist. We are affiliated with AFSCME International which has more than 1.4 million members from Hawaii to Maine and Puerto Rico. Rhode Island Council 94 is dedicated to increasing its strength by bringing in new members through its organizing program. We also recognize that strength in the political arena is essential. Those who make the decisions regarding our pensions, health care, wages, and other benefits must be accessible to us. AFSCME and Rhode Island Council 94 are very active politically supporting elected officials who support us, and oppose those who work against us.

The Department's primary function is the implementation of state laws mandating the regulation and licensing of designated businesses, professions, occupations and other specified activities. The areas regulated include Banking, Securities, Commercial Licensing, Office of Cannabis Regulation, Gaming and Athletics, Insurance, Accountants and Design Professionals. The Department Director is appointed pursuant to Title 42 of the Rhode Island General Laws and serves statutorily as the State Banking Commissioner, Commissioner of Insurance, Real Estate Administrator and State Boxing Commissioner. Boards and Commissions housed within the Department include the Real Estate Commission, Real Estate Appraisal Board, the Auto Collision Repair Licensing Advisory Board and the Rhode Island Boards of Accountancy, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Engineering and Land Survey. The Department issues more than 200,000 licenses and conducts administrative hearings involving issuances, suspensions or revocations of those licenses. The Rhode Island Farm Bureau is a non-profit that advocates for all farmers in the Ocean State. Established in 1953, the RI Farm Bureau is affiliated with the American Farm Bureau. Our members include individuals concerned about the quality of their food and want to support farmers in their community, local restaurants and organizations that source their food from local growers, and all types of agriculture in Rhode Island. This includes but is not limited to RI fruit farms, family-owned orchards, dairy farms, sea food fishermen and aquaculture producers, beekeepers, viticulture, and many more. The Rhode Island Farm Bureau speaks as a collective voice of its members at the Rhode Island State House.

The Rhode Island Historical Society is a privately-endowed membership organization, founded in 1822, dedicated to collecting, preserving, and sharing Rhode Island’s history. The Society has the largest and most important historical collections in existence relating to Rhode Island . These collections include some 25,000 objects, 5,000 manuscripts, 100,000 books and printed items, 400,000 photographs and maps, and 9 million feet of motion-picture film. The Society owns and maintains the notable John Brown House ( 52 Power Street , Providence ), a National Historic Landmark built in 1786; the Aldrich House ( 110 Benevolent Street , Providence ), also a National Historic Landmark, built in 1822; and the Mary Elizabeth Robinson Research Center ( 121 Hope Street , Providence ). The Society also maintains the Museum of Work and Culture ( 42 South Main Street , Woonsocket ), a regional history museum devoted to the history of northern Rhode Island . The Society offers through the Newell D. Goff Education Center a variety of educational programs including workshops, lectures, films, and walking tours of Providence . The Society is very active in teacher training programs seeking to improve the quality of history teaching in Rhode Island schools. The Society also presents exhibits, films, concerts, and many other community activities and programs.
