Special Olympics Kentucky provides sports training and competition opportunities for children and adults with intellectual disabilities throughout Kentucky. We currently offer 15 sports in a year-round program that includes competition at the local, regional and state level. We produce more than 90 competition days a year, including 10 state championship-level events. We also provide health services through our Healthy Athletes Program, early childhood services through our Young Athletes Program and school community building initiatives through Project UNIFY.

The mission of Special Olympics Michigan is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities in the state of Michigan. Athletes are given continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness and athletic skill, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.

Special Olympics Nederland maakt deel uit van een wereldwijde beweging die zich inzet om het leven van mensen met een verstandelijke beperking te verbeteren door middel van het organiseren van sportevenementen. Immers sporten maakt mensen met een verstandelijke beperking niet alleen fysiek en mentaal ‘fitter’, het vergroot ook het zelfvertrouwen en daarmee het zelfbeeld. Special Olympics Inc. is uitgegroeid tot ’s werelds grootste sportorganisatie voor mensen met een verstandelijke beperking: wekelijks sporten er meer dan 4 miljoen sporters in 170 landen die onder begeleiding zijn van miljoenen vrijwilligers. Special Olympics evenementen worden op lokaal, regionaal, nationaal en internationaal niveau georganiseerd en staan in het teken van sport, plezier, nieuwe vriendschappen en emotie, waarbij meedoen belangrijker is dan winnen. Mensen met een verstandelijke beperking kunnen tijdens het evenement op hun eigen niveau deelnemen aan wedstrijden in verschillende takken van sport, zoals atletiek, badminton, basketbal, judo, paardrijden, tennis, voetbal, wielrennen, zwemmen, etc.
