Women Into Construction is an independent not-for-profit organisation that promotes gender equality in construction. We provide bespoke support to women wishing to work in the construction industry, and assist contractors to recruit highly motivated, trained women, helping to reduce skills gaps and create a more gender-equal work-force. We work with contractors, to provide access to skilled and motivated women wishing to enter the construction industry. We provide advice, training, work-placements and job opportunities for women, that ultimately lead to sustained employment in construction. We work with many partners, including CITB, Universities and Construction colleges, Job Centre Plus and other specialist jobs brokerages, providing the opportunity for their female clients to access our services and be supported into opportunities within the construction industry. Our History. We began as a project on the Olympic site in East London, in 2008, providing construction related training and brokerage into employment for women. We doubled the numbers of women working in construction jobs and changed the traditionally male culture on site. After the successful delivery of the 2012 Olympics, we continued to work with women and contractors on construction sites all over London. In January 2015, we became a stand-alone, community interest company, and are now working with contractors on Crossrail, Tideway, and HS2, as well as other projects across London, Birmingham and the West Midlands, to support women wanting to work in this exciting industry. Our Vision is to be the construction industry’s organisation of choice for women and contractors. We want to change the face of construction and normalise the position of women in the construction industry.
