The company AKROLITHOS was founded in 1979 by Mr. George Chatzisavvas. The purpose of the foundation was mined slates from region Pageo - Kavala Greece. The company was expanded at the process of these slates and other natural stones from various parts of Greece. Today AKROLITHOS S.A. is an integrated plant, with quarries, consisting of modern processing facilities, showrooms and offices, measuring a total area of 70.000m2. AKROLITHOS S.A has exclusive partnerships with several other companies, quarries in Greece and other countries. Akron Energy Systems, LLC provides steam heat to more than 17 million square feet of building space in downtown Akron, Ohio. Customers include Akron Children's Hospital, Akron General Hospital, Summa Hospital and the University of Akron. Akron Energy Systems, LLC operates two plants. The Progressive Energy Center includes three boilers that can operate on natural gas, woodwaste or wood chips. A second boiler plant, The Heritage Energy Center, can operate on coal or natural gas. Akron Energy Systems, L.L.C. also provides chilled water cooling to a section of downtown Akron, Ohio that includes a 2 million square foot office building and light industrial park, the Akron Aeros baseball stadium, an adjacent office building and the Akron Civic Theater.

The Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority provides affordable housing options to approximately 10,000 households throughout Summit County. Our public housing program consists of over 4,000 apartments and single family homes that receive federal rental subsidies for low income families as well as disabled and elderly individuals. In addition, AMHA owns and/or manages over 800 apartments that are federally subsidized and/or financed with low income housing tax credits or tax-exempt bonds. AMHA also administers rental subsidy to over 5,000 households through the Housing Choice Voucher Program. AMHA works in partnership with many public and private entities to help strengthen our community. By investing in partnerships, we are better able to address the basic needs of our residents and create opportunities for self-sufficiency and a better quality of life. As the need for affordable housing continues to grow, with over 22,000 applicants on our waiting lists, we will continue to invest in education, employment and the needs of the elderly and disabled.

Akron Polymer Systems’ (APS) primary mission is to utilize our extensive polymer expertise to develop high performance polymer products for demanding applications. APS’ products rely on our in-depth understanding of how molecular structure affects performance. This expertise has enabled us to develop products with very unique combinations of thermal, mechanical and optical properties. Polymer products for aerospace, alternative energy, biomedical and display applications have been developed and are now offered for sale. We also offer a series of unique monomers that can be used to tailor polymer properties. In addition to our internal product development efforts, we often collaborate with other companies and institutions on the development of new polymer materials. Normally such work is carried out under a Joint Development Agreement (JDA). APS is currently working with several Fortune 500 and Fortune 100 companies under such agreements. APS also offers toll manufacturing of monomers and polymers. These custom synthesis activities often include the scale up of experimental procedures to pilot plant levels.
