Ein junges Unternehmen, welches dennoch auf beinahe 150 Jahre Geschichte zurückblicken kann. Mit der Frauenfeld-Wil-Bahn stiess im Juni 2021 eine fünfte Bahn zu den Appenzeller Bahnen. Heute sind die Appenzeller Bahnen die viertgrösste Meterspurbahn der Schweiz. Mit ihrem Liniennetz verbinden die Appenzeller Bahnen nicht nur die Regionen zwischen Bodensee und Alpstein, sie verbinden auch die Städte Frauenfeld und Wil und fördern die Mobilität der Menschen aus der Stadt, den ländlichen Gebieten sowie den Tourismus. Jährlich reisen 6.3 Millionen Menschen mit den Appenzeller Bahnen durch die Ostschweiz. Die Appenzeller Bahnen betreiben insgesamt 6 Bahnlinien, welche durch 4 Kantone führen.
