Established in 1997, the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) Monash has expanded its membership base from a small minority to well over 1000 new members a year. Our members are mostly comprised of university students, all from many different backgrounds, universities and campuses around Melbourne. Over the years, ASEAN Monash has built a long-standing reputation as a social club across 3 Monash University campuses. ASEAN Monash began as a small university club with the desire to provide university students with great social events, where new friendships, networks, experiences and memories were made. Two decades later, we are still growing strong, along with our vision and ability to cater for bigger and better events. We are now being deemed as the largest social club of its kind at Monash University, spanning over 3 campuses: Clayton, Caulfield and Parkville. Our ability to develop and adapt to changes in the 'average' university life has enabled us to revolutionise the experience. Today, ASEAN has proven the ability to be a leader in running social events within the tertiary community. We have been able to not only be consistent but also deliver quality to our members, holding a diverse selection of exciting and popular ASEAN events, as well as others with well established university club's such as Monash University's International Students Society (MUISS) and Melbourne University's Australasian-Association (Aa) to bring you the best experiences. With 5 official annual events including, the Summer Camp, Cocktail & Lounge Night, the Annual Ball, the WOK & AXP's (After Exam Parties), along with a dozen other events scattered throughout the year such as: booze cruises, poker tournaments, pool tournaments, paint & foam party and dodgeball tournaments, as well as frequent Free BBQ's as a gift to our members, take your uni experience to the next level.

ASEAN University Network

The 4th ASEAN Summit in 1992 called for ASEAN Member Countries to help “hasten the solidarity and development of a regional identity through the promotion of human resource development so as to further strengthen the existing network of leading universities and institutions of higher learning in the region.” This idea led to the establishment of the AUN in November 1995 with the signing of its Charter by the Ministers responsible for higher education from six Member Countries, and with initial participation of eleven universities from six countries. A Memorandum of Agreement on the establishment of the ASEAN University Network was subsequently signed by the presidents/rectors/vice-chancellors of the participating Member Universities. The Agreement mandated the formation of a Board of Trustees and a Secretariat headed by an Executive Director.

AASYP aims to inspire Australian and ASEAN youth to engage with each other to learn more about the region, ASEAN affairs and ASEAN-Australia cooperation. The ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO) is a regional macroeconomic surveillance organization that aims to contribute to securing the macroeconomic and financial stability in the ASEAN+3 region. AMRO’s vision is to be an independent, credible and professional regional organization acting as a trusted policy advisor to members in the ASEAN+3 region, which includes 10 member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and China (including Hong Kong), Japan, and Korea. To fulfill its mandate, AMRO focuses on three core functions: conducting macroeconomic surveillance, supporting the implementation of the Chiang Mai Initiative Multilateralisation (CMIM), and providing technical assistance to members. With the size of USD240 billion, the CMIM is a multilateral currency swap arrangement among ASEAN+3 members. Its core objectives are to address balance of payment and short-term liquidity difficulties in the region, and to supplement existing international financial arrangements. AMRO was initially established as a company limited by guarantee in Singapore in April 2011, and transformed into an international organization in February 2016.
