Stichting Archikidz Rotterdam laat kinderen op een speelse manier kennis maken met hun gebouwde omgeving. Elk jaar organiseert Archikidz Rotterdam een groot architectuurevenement voor meer dan 300 kinderen van zeven tot en met twaalf jaar. Archikidz is een vrolijk en sociaal evenement. Bovendien is het helemaal gratis! Kinderen bewust maken van architectuur, hun gebouwde omgeving en hun eigen talenten. En: kinderen met diverse achtergronden de gelegenheid geven om elkaar te ontmoeten en van elkaar te leren. Dat is onze missie. Onder begeleiding van professionele architecten leren ze te ontwerpen en na te denken over een thema. Het thema is ieder jaar anders. Om zoveel mogelijk kinderen te bereiken is de dag gratis voor alle kinderen. Vrijwilligers en sponsoring Archikidz Rotterdam draait volledig op vrijwilligers. Naast het bestuur, is er een enthousiaste groep vrijwilligers actief die het evenement organiseert. Tijdens de dag zelf worden de kinderen begeleid door ongeveer 35 dagvrijwilligers en 45 professionele architecten. Onze stichting heeft geen winstoogmerk en wordt volledig gefinancierd door sponsoren, fondsen en donateurs. Zonder deze steun heeft Archikidz Rotterdam geen enkel bestaansrecht. Archikidz Rotterdam 2018 wordt mede mogelijk gemaakt door VSBFonds, BPD cultuurfonds, Volkskracht en Kokon. Oorsprong Archikidz is ooit begonnen in Amsterdam in 1998. Onder de naam Bouwen in de Beurs vond dit plaats in de Beurs van Berlage. In 2001 kreeg het initiatief de Prins Bernhardprijs voor Kunst- en Cultuureducatie. In 2009 werd Stichting Archikidz Amsterdam opgericht als opvolger van de Stichting Bouwen in de Beurs. In navolging hiervan werd in 2012 Stichting Archikidz Rotterdam opgericht. Inmiddels is Archikidz een internationaal begrip. Van Zaandam tot Barcelona en van Buenos Aires tot Sydney. Archikidz Rotterdam vindt dit jaar voor de zevende keer plaats.
